Types of Network Cables
There are two standards of Network cables, Cat5e and Cat6e. Both these standards are little different from each other. Cat6e is better than cat5e standard in terms of performance and transmission. It offers more bandwidth than cat5e and is preferred by most of the officials. Here we will be talking about these two standards of network cables. We will start up with cat5e cable which came into existence before cat6e.
Cat5e cables are used for many purposes like in computer networks, transferring ATM signals, voice signals and a few more. It is made up of twisted pair of copper wires enclosed in a jacket. This jacket provides them protection from environmental conditions. Though interference is present in these cables but even then the ratio of signal and noise is very small. This shows that cat5e cables are far better than earlier versions of network cables.
Other network cable which is cat6e cable is known as the sixth generation of cabling standards. Being advanced than cat5e cables it offers more features than cat5e. Though the structural composition of these network cables are similar but still cat6e cable perform better than cat5e. Cat6e cables are mainly used for 1000 MBps in contrast to 100 MBps for cat5e cables. One more similarity between these two network cables is that both of them have two forms. One form is known as stranded form and other is known as solid form. Stranded form is used for transmission over small distances as it is flexible.
